The government has cleared the proposal to recruit 281 teachers, in the first phase of recruitment in the Andhra University.

Not only AU, but also the recruitment will be taken up in 14 government-run universities in the State. In the first phase, a total of 1,104 teachers will be recruited for all the 14 universities, said Vice-Chancellor (in-charge) of Andhra University Prof. E.A. Narayana.

AU has been facing serious shortage of teaching staff for the last five to 10 years. Most of the teachers have retired and the university was scaled down from 3.65 rating to 3.6 in the scale of 4, in the recent NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Committee) assessment that was held in February.

Though 3.6 is considered to be a good rating and the university continues to stand second after Jadavpur University, amongst the State-run universities and  fourth among all universities in the country, it is learnt that it was scaled from its previous high due to lack of faculty members.
