All are ready for Godavari Pushkaralu-2015

As a culture that admires its rivers, Pushkaram or Pushkaralu, is dedicated to one river a year. Just like the Chinese dedicate one year to each of the twelve animals of their zodiac, in India, each year is dedicated to one of these rivers. This is the year of the Godavari.

More that six crore people are expected to visit the various shrines on the banks of the Godavari to bathe in the river, between July 14th and 25th.

The regions that will see a massive footfall are Dharmapuri, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Kaleshwaram, Basar and Bharachalam in Telangana, and Narasapuram, Antarvedi, Kovvurr and Rajamundry in Andhra Pradesh.

A budget of about 452 crores was allotted to the preparations for the festival by Telangana, a major part of which went into the restoration of around 60 bathing ghats.

Andhra Pradesh's budget for the same is around 100 crores. Both, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh tourism departments have come up with packages for pilgrims.

For the safety of the pilgrims, the Telangana state has given 18,000 police personnel the responsibility to see to it that things go smoothly. So that people don't get duped, the official priests of the temples will be wearing ID's. The price for different poojas has also been fixed.

An official notification from the AP police said,

"The elaborate bandobust police arrangements are made at all the places to avoid any untoward incidents and to prevent stampedes, property offences, road accidents/ traffic jams, prevent foray to deep water besides providing security to the pilgrims and temples."

There will also be anti-sabotage squads, bomb disposal squads and dog squads to make sure no untoward incidents happen during this crowded festival.
