All Intermediate, degree and professional colleges including engineering colleges in Telangana will be closed down from Monday protesting against the proposed inspections by the vigilance officials.

A meeting of representatives of various managements’ associations on Sunday, which led to the formation of a JAC of Educational Institutions, decided to stop all academic work and close colleges demanding immediate withdrawal of the decision to take up inspection of colleges by the vigilance department than the concerned university or the board. The JAC said the move was nothing but harassment by the Government.

So far the Government has not released fee reimbursement to the tune of Rs. 3,600 crore pending for the last two years and it wants colleges to maintain standards. “How can the Government expect standards when it has not paid money for the last two years? How do we pay salaries to our teachers and meet day to day expenditure,” speakers at the meeting said.

Last week the Government decided to constitute 700 teams to inspect 6,300 institutions offering Intermediate, Degree and professional courses. Each team with seven members would be visiting colleges and submit a report to the Government. “What will the policemen understand about the requirements of colleges. How can there be misuse of scholarships when the admissions are done by the convenors in professional colleges ,” the JAC representatives alleged.
